{"id":13175,"date":"2019-10-24T15:57:11","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T14:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/?p=13175"},"modified":"2019-10-24T15:57:11","modified_gmt":"2019-10-24T14:57:11","slug":"morocco-renews-its-policy-of-non-interference-in-algerias-internal-affairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/fr\/morocco-renews-its-policy-of-non-interference-in-algerias-internal-affairs\/","title":{"rendered":"Morocco Renews its Policy of Non-interference in Algeria\u2019s Internal Affairs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/north_africa_post.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-13138 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/north_africa_post-300x76.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"76\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/north_africa_post-300x76.png 300w, https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/north_africa_post.png 413w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Morocco has renewed on Sunday its policy of non-interference in Algeria\u2019s internal affairs and its decision to abstain from making any comment on the internal developments taking place in this neighboring country.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/mezouar_algerie_wpc_2019.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13023\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/mezouar_algerie_wpc_2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"684\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/mezouar_algerie_wpc_2019.jpg 684w, https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/mezouar_algerie_wpc_2019-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 684px) 100vw, 684px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This came in a statement by the Moroccan Foreign Ministry in response to remarks made by Salaheddine Mezouar, president of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), before the 12th annual World Policy Conference (WCP), currently convening in Marrakech.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, Mezouar expressed support for the protest movements staged in Algeria since last February, emphasizing that such political protests \u201cbring hope\u201d to the region.<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Ministry has vehemently denounced Mezouar for his remarks on the political situation in Algeria that it described as \u201cirresponsible,awkward and ill-thought statements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kingdom of Morocco has in fact decided to adopt an attitude of non-interference with regard to the developments in Algeria. Morocco abstains from giving comments in this respect. It has neither to interfere in the domestic issues of this neighboring country not to comment on them in whatsoever manner,\u201d the Foreign Ministry said in its statement.<\/p>\n<p>Mezouar\u2019s remarks \u201craised questions among the political class and the public opinion with regard to their timing and motivations,\u201d the Foreign department said, adding that the CGEM cannot replace the Moroccan government and take on its behalf positions on international issues and in particular on developments in this neighboring country, Algeria.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the release of the Foreign Ministry\u2019s statement, Salaheddine Mezouar resigned from his position of President of the CGEM.<\/p>\n<p>Mezouar announced his resignation in an e-mail addressed to the CGEM members, indicating that he made his decision for \u201creasons of major personal constraints\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Was there an immediate cause-effect relationship regarding his remarks on Algeria?
