The call followed a similar movement denouncing the participation of a former Israeli official at the 12th annual World Policy Conference (WCP) in Marrakech.<\/em><\/p>\n

Rabat \u2013 The Moroccan\u00a0campaign to boycott Israel<\/a>\u00a0(BDS Maroc)\u00a0 has called on the youth to abstain from participation at the fifth Forum of Young Leaders, a symposium that will take place in\u00a0Essaouira<\/a>\u00a0from November 15-17.<\/p>\n

The condemnatory statement came in response to the possible participation of Israeli youth at the event.<\/p>\n

BDS described the move as a \u201cclear normalization [with Israel] and an attempt to show the state of occupation and colonial-Israeli settlement as a natural partner in a forum.\u201d<\/p>\n

The campaign emphasized Morocco\u2019s solidarity with the Palestinian people, emphasizing that the \u201cmajority of our people absolutely reject normalization\u201d with Israel.<\/p>\n

The event is sponsored by the French embassy in Morocco in collaboration with the French Institute.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 movement said that it is the \u201cfirst time that the French embassy invited\u00a0Israel<\/a>\u00a0to participate in the form.\u201d<\/p>\n

The French embassy in Israel shared a statement in September, calling on Israeli youth, who understand French to apply to participate in\u00a0the Euro-Mediterranean Young leaders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Morocco World News contacted the French Institute in Rabat for confirmation of Israeli participation at the event. The institute has not yet responded.<\/p>\n

BDS strongly criticized the French embassy, condemning Israeli violations against Palestinians.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe denounce the fact that the French Embassy seeks to host Israeli youths in Morocco, since the position of the Maghreb people in general, especially the position of Moroccan people has been consistent with\u201d the Palestinian cause.<\/p>\n

The call to boycott the event follows a\u00a0 statement of condemnation from the Moroccan Observatory for Anti-Normalization with Israel in October when former Israeli Minister of Interior Meir Sheetrit who took part in the 12th annual World Policy Conference in Marrakech.<\/p>\n

The observatory argued in a statement that \u201cZionists started considering Morocco as a paradise of normalization.\u201d The statement criticized the Moroccan government for the \u201cintentional confusion between Moroccans\u201d and \u201cthe Moroccan diaspora in\u00a0Israel<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morocco is among the Arab countries that have expressed their steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.<\/p>\n

In September, Head of Government Saad Eddine El Mothani reiterated Morocco\u2019s position, emphasizing that\u00a0 the country and King Mohammed VI confirmed their\u00a0\u00a0\u201cclear position that all attempts to undermine the status of\u00a0Jerusalem<\/a>\u00a0are unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morocco is also one of the countries that rejected the US \u201cPeace Plan\u201d known as the deal of the century.<\/p>\n

In letters and statements from King Mohammed VI, Morocco has officially \u201cexpressed rejection for the deal of the century once and for all,\u201d El Othmani clarified.<\/p>\n
