(Screenshot\/WPC)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>WPC is an independent organization which was launched in 2008 by Thierry de Montbrial, the President and Founder of the French Institute of International Relations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ABU DHABI:\u00a0Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al-Nahyan, UAE tolerance and coexistence minister, officially opened on Friday\u00a0the World Policy Conference (WPC)\u00a0in Abu\u00a0Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome you again to the United Arab Emirates and Abu Dhabi, as a distinguished group of influential political, economic and business leaders,\u201d Al-Nahyan said during the opening.<\/p>\n<p>The minister praised the country\u2019s efforts at co-existence among different cultures and religions and said it creates a conducive environment and makes doing business easier.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14764\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"587\" height=\"677\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-2.png 587w, https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-2-260x300.png 260w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>WPC is an independent organization which was launched in 2008 by Thierry de Montbrial, the President and Founder of the French Institute of International Relations, to enhance governance and promote a more open and prosperous world.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers say the annual event \u201cbrings together leading figures from all five continents \u2013 political and business leaders, academics and journalists \u2013 in a spirit of tolerance that is the only one conducive to the pursuit of the common good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During an earlier session, Josep Borrell Fontelles, the high representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, spoke about the neighboring Middle East, the Lebanese crisis and Tunisia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14761\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"587\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-3.png 587w, https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-3-300x272.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we need a full strategy from Gibraltar to Syria, but we need to have a clear idea of how to deal with our neighbors, and I think we have,\u201d he said, highlighting that Lebanon is a different case.<\/p>\n<p>Fontelles added that since the Beirut port explosion, he and other officials including French President Manual Macron, have been pushing the political class of Lebanon to act and face the political challenges of the country, but admitted that the EU\u2019s \u201cambitions\u201d for the region have not been \u201cfulfilled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can help them, we can provide political support, we can put political pressure, but we can not substitute them,\u201d he commented on the current Lebanese crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in Tunisia \u201cwe had to place ourselves in respect to the political development,\u201d Fontelles added.<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of Saudi Arabia\u2019s foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, deputy minister for foreign affairs Waleed Alkhereiji, conveyed the Kingdom\u2019s congratulations to the UAE on its 50th national day, the inauguration of Expo 2020 in Dubai as well as organizing the 14th World Policy Conference.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14762\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"586\" height=\"702\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-4.png 586w, https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Arab-News_photo-4-250x300.png 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 586px) 100vw, 586px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the UAE for three occasions. First, their 50th national day anniversary, and second for the inauguration of Expo, and third for convening or hosting this conference in the capital Abu Dhabi,\u201d Alkhereiji said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the conference presents a unique opportunity to improve direct engagement on regional and global issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe insight shared here works towards informing policy making by gathering officials, researchers, business leaders and industry experts under the same roof,\u201d Alkhereiji said.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will host several prominent politicians such as existing and previous prime ministers, foreign ministers and high-ranking officials of global and regional organizations.
