Developments in Ukraine have already forced us to question some of our assumptions and reacquaint ourselves with older truths.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__body article__body--commentary paywall english\" dir=\"ltr\" data-page-area=\"article-body\">\n<p data-line-id=\"d2219d12fe854b38a9e518740ed9b127\">CAMBRIDGE \u2013 When Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his\u00a0invasion\u00a0of Ukraine on February 24, he envisaged a quick seizure of Kyiv and a change of government analogous to Soviet interventions in\u00a0Budapest in 1956\u00a0and\u00a0Prague in 1968. But it wasn\u2019t to be. The war is still raging, and no one knows when or how it will end.<\/p>\n<p data-line-id=\"d2219d12fe854b38a9e518740ed9b127\">While some observers have urged an early\u00a0ceasefire, others have emphasized the importance of\u00a0punishing\u00a0Russian aggression. Ultimately, though, the outcome will be determined by facts on the ground.
