{"id":15477,"date":"2022-06-27T14:55:29","date_gmt":"2022-06-27T13:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/?p=15477"},"modified":"2022-06-27T14:55:29","modified_gmt":"2022-06-27T13:55:29","slug":"josep-borrell-%e2%80%8biran-and-eu-agree-to-restart-nuclear-deal-talks-on-borrell-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/fr\/josep-borrell-%e2%80%8biran-and-eu-agree-to-restart-nuclear-deal-talks-on-borrell-visit\/","title":{"rendered":"Josep Borrell: \u00ab\u00a0\u200bIran and EU agree to restart nuclear deal talks on Borrell visit\u00a0\u00bb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<header class=\"article-header\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead css-1wt8oh6\"><em>Indirect talks between Iran and the US are set to resume after the EU foreign policy chief visits Tehran to resolve the impasse.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<figure class=\"article-featured-image\">\n<div class=\"responsive-image\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div class=\"article-info-block css-ti04u9\">\n<div class=\"article-b-l\">\n<div class=\"article-author-name\"><span class=\"article-by\">By\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"article-author-name-item\">Maziar Motamedi<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-dates\">\n<div class=\"date-simple css-1yjq2zp\"><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Published On 25 Jun 2022<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"social-share-buttons\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wysiwyg wysiwyg--all-content css-ibbk12\" aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p><strong>Tehran, Iran \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Iran and the European Union have agreed during a visit by the bloc\u2019s foreign policy chief to resume nuclear talks with the United States that have stalled since March.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and the EU\u2019s Josep Borrell announced during a news conference following a \u201clong but positive\u201d talk on Saturday that they have agreed that indirect talks between Tehran and Washington to restore their 2015 nuclear accord will restart within days.<\/p>\n<p>Amirabdollahian told reporters that, for Iran, what matters most is that it can enjoy the full economic benefits that it was promised under the original deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever issue that can [negatively] impact Iran\u2019s economic benefits will not be agreeable\u201d for Iran and the government of President Ebrahim Raisi, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope, specifically, that the American side will this time realistically and fairly engage in committed and responsible acts towards reaching the final point of an agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Borrell also welcomed the resumption of the talks, saying a restored nuclear deal would benefit the region and the world.<\/p>\n<p>He also said he would like to return to Iran in the future, presumably when US sanctions are lifted, to further discuss the \u201chigh potential\u201d of expanding trade and energy ties between Iran and the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The restarted talks will be aimed at \u201cresolving the last outstanding issues\u201d, he said in a series of tweets following the news conference, without elaborating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Borrell and his deputy Enrique Mora arrived in Tehran late on Friday and met Amirabdollahian and chief nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani on Saturday.
