{"id":15707,"date":"2022-08-22T15:36:40","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T14:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/?p=15707"},"modified":"2022-08-22T15:36:57","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T14:36:57","slug":"two-russians-and-one-ukrainian-arrested-after-suspected-spying-raid-on-albanian-arms-factory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/fr\/two-russians-and-one-ukrainian-arrested-after-suspected-spying-raid-on-albanian-arms-factory\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Russians and one Ukrainian arrested after suspected spying raid on Albanian arms factory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Male suspect tried to use paralysing spray on security guards after being caught trying to take photographs at the facility at Gramsh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">Two Russians and a Ukrainian have been arrested after an apparent bungled spying raid on a military base and arms factory in central\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/albania\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Albania<\/a>, the Albanian defence ministry said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">One of the male suspects allegedly attacked the guards with a paralysing spray while trying to take photographs of the Gramsh factory, which is used for dismantling derelict weapons, the ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">The ministry added that two of its soldiers were injured while trying to stop the raid, but the three foreign nationals were detained.<\/p>\n<p>Albanian prime minister Edi Rama said the three individuals are \u201csuspected of espionage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">\u201cThree citizens with Russian and Ukrainian passports have tried to enter the factory,\u201d the ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">\u201cThe officers who were guarding the plant reacted immediately, but during their efforts to stop the three foreign nationals, two of our soldiers were injured,\u201d the statement said, adding the conditions of the soldiers was stable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">\u201cIn an attempt to escape control, one of the Russian nationals, identified by the initials MZ, 24 [years old], used neuroparalysing spray on the two security guards,\u201d after he was tackled by the guards, the ministry added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">Two others, a Russian woman identified as ST, aged 33, and an Ukrainian man, identified as FA, 25 years old, were also arrested in the vicinity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">\u201cWhat pride for the military guards who neutralized three individuals suspected of espionage,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ediramaal\/status\/1561101617251975168\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Rama wrote on Twitter<\/a>, adding: \u201cNow let\u2019s wait for the full clarification of this event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-xry7m2\">During the summer holidays Albania is visited by many Russians and Ukrainian tourists.
