Egypt<\/a>\u00a0is convening a gathering of African ministers of finance, economy and environment in Cairo today, 60 days before the UN Cop27 climate summit.<\/p>\n

The meeting is part of the country\u2019s push to frame\u00a0Cop27<\/a>\u00a0as an \u201cAfrican Cop\u201d, which seeks to address the needs and aspirations of African countries, in addition to ensuring a global move \u201cfrom pledges to implementation\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0The National<\/i>\u00a0on the eve of the International Co-operation Forum, which Egypt is also hosting this week, Egypt’s Minister of International Co-operation Rania Al Mashat said \u201cclimate action has to be nationally motivated\u201d, and for Egypt, \u201cclimate and development come hand in hand\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cDevelopment projects in Egypt have had climate action at their heart since 2014,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

One example of this is the recently launched programme \u201cNWFE\u201d, a subset of Egypt\u2019s 2050 climate strategy that was announced last July.<\/p>\n
