{"id":17225,"date":"2024-02-20T09:57:46","date_gmt":"2024-02-20T08:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/?p=17225"},"modified":"2024-02-20T09:57:46","modified_gmt":"2024-02-20T08:57:46","slug":"italian-team-signed-up-to-expand-romanias-nuclear-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpolicyconference.com\/fr\/italian-team-signed-up-to-expand-romanias-nuclear-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Italian team signed up to expand Romania\u2019s nuclear plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"heading-block\">\n<div class=\"block-inner core-block-inner\">\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Italy\u2019s Ansaldo Energia Group and financier Sace have signed a memorandum of understanding to extend the life of Unit 1 of Romania\u2019s Cernavoda nuclear power plant and to develop two more reactors, units 3 and 4.<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-block\">\n<div class=\"block-inner core-block-inner\">\n<p>Ansaldo\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ansaldoenergia.com\/about-us\/media-center\/power-generation-news-insights\/detail-news\/ansaldo-nucleare-and-sace-together-for-romanian-nuclear-development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0the agreement with Romanian utility Nuclearelectrica aims to structure a financing line of up to \u20ac2bn to carry out the work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-block\">\n<div class=\"block-inner core-block-inner\">\n<p>The deal was signed yesterday at the Ministry of Business in Rome, in the presence of Adolfo Urso, Italy\u2019s business minister, and Stefan-Radu Oprea, Romania\u2019s economic minister.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-block\">\n<div class=\"block-inner core-block-inner\">\n<p>Cernavoda currently has two Canadian-designed 700MW Candu 6 reactors, which came into operation in 1996 and 2007.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-block\">\n<div class=\"block-inner core-block-inner\">\n<p>Each has a design life of 30 years. Together they supply about a fifth of Romania\u2019s electricity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-block\">\n<div class=\"block-inner core-block-inner\">\n<p>Ansaldo Nucleare helped set up their generating systems.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-block\">\n<div class=\"block-inner core-block-inner\">\n<p>By the end of 2026, it will begin engineering and procuring components for the life extension of Unit 1, in collaboration with AtkinsR\u00e9alis and Korea\u2019s KHNP (see further reading).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph-block\">\n<div class=\"block-inner core-block-inner\">\n<p>In parallel, Nuclearelectrica intends to complete units 3 and 4 based on the design of Unit 2.
