(WIFR) &#8211; The first presidential debate of the 2024 election year captured the internet by storm. Many comments about President Joe Biden\u2019s health, Former President Donald Trump\u2019s golf skills and the banter held between the two were main topics on social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Whether watchers were tuning in for entertainment purposes or to stay up with the news, political scientists say the debate will affect the performance of both candidates in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s definitely going to affect the way people view President Biden and Former President Trump,\u201d said Rock Valley College Political Science professor Maureen Lowry. \u201cWe\u2019ve had the benefit of seeing them both in office so I think Americans already have a handle on how they can perform in capacity as presidents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2024\/06\/28\/world-reaction-biden-trump-debate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Americans and watchers<\/a>\u00a0across the world were in shock from the performance of Biden and Trump. Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt said on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/carlbildt\/status\/1806610951220650184\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">X<\/a>, that the debate was, \u201cFairly disastrous. That\u2019s the only way to sum it up.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"arc-ad | d-flex flex-column ad-type-flex-leaderboard ad-article-inline include-disclaimer justify-content-center text-center\">\n<div class=\"arc-ad-wrapper |\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Rockford University political science professor Bob Evans shared that the debate made him feel as if there was no one worth voting for in this election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cNobody inspired me,\u201d he said. \u201cNobody made me feel like \u2018that\u2019s the person I\u2019m going to ring doorbells for and knock on doors and vote for.\u2019 It was a turnoff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">New sources such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/first-presidential-debate-2024-fact-check\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/ap-fact-check\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AP News<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/article\/2024\/jun\/28\/2024-presidential-debate-fact-check-biden-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PolitiFact<\/a>\u00a0fact-checked claims and statistics said by both Trump and Biden. Both suffered remorse for making false and misleading comments that put their legal stances at risk. Lowry suggests in addition to the news rules that were set in place for this debate, a real-time fact-checker should be present to hold candidates accountable for their statements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe public absolutely gets misled. You know, have a fact check in real-time, it absolutely can be done. There are real-time transcripts rolling and real-time reporters that say no, the accurate information is actually this and provides links to the evidence and the data and that\u2019s a critical importance.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"arc-ad | d-flex flex-column ad-type-flex-leaderboard ad-article-inline include-disclaimer justify-content-center text-center\">\n<div class=\"arc-ad-wrapper |\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Other websites that fact-checked the debate are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/27\/politics\/fact-checking-the-cnn-presidential-debate\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/article\/2024\/jun\/27\/fact-check-debate-biden-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Guardian<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cv2g4n8vl9yo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/fact-checking-biden-trump-presidential-debate\/story?id=111500248\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>\u00a0and many other sources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lowry and Evans share they hope both candidates will be more prepared for the next presidential debate. They anticipate Independent candidate Robert F.
