On November 21, 2016, John Andrews, Contributing Editor for The Economist interviewed ASPI President Kevin Rudd about China’s future at the World Policy Conference. Over the next ten years, Rudd predicated that China is likely to have a “Chinese Communist Party still strongly in power,” and “a strengthened Xi Jinping leadership.” Rudd also estimated that China’s economic transformation program would be “sufficiently successful” to “grow the economy at something north of 5 percent.”

The question he wonders about is “the extent to which China will have turned the corner on the question of environmental sustainbility, air pollution, and climate change. The policies are beginning to be in place. I don’t know how effective they are going to be,” Rudd said. (3 min., 40 sec.)
