President of the Republic of Benin since 2006. He is also President of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). He served as Chairperson of the African Union (2012-2013). He was President of the West African Development Bank (1994-2006). He was also Technical Advisor to the President of Benin for monetary and bank affairs, member of the Macroeconomic Analysis Cell of the President’s Office (1992-1994). He graduated from the National University of Benin, the University of Dakar, Senegal and from the West African Center for Banking Studies of the Central Bank of West African States, also based in Dakar. He also holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Orleans, France, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Paris-Dauphine, France.
